PRESS RELEASE
The Freedom of Expression Institute is most distressed to note the actions of the Premier's office reported in the press today. Although we understand that not trusting one's staff could lead him to be substantially insecure in his ability to manage efficiently, we believe involving the police in investigations, holding confidentiality workshops and getting staff to sign oaths of secrecy, all reinforce perceptions that his administration has much to hide. If public officials have integrity and are honest in their day to day dealings, the issue of leaked documents becomes immaterial. The Premier's attitude suggests that he does not respect the current government's commitment to promote transparency and accountability in government in line with the Constitution.
