Freedom of Expression is a fundamental value crucial to the preservation and enhancement of a defensible and durable civilization. Sensibly balanced, it is an essential precondition for any legitimate pursuit for the discovery of the most crucial truths for any general wrestling with conflict. Responsibly exercised, it enables those engaged in it, to grow morally and intellectually in the process, to find liberation in its pursuit and to attain dignity and self esteem for themselves and those enriched by their interaction. The proper parameters of this freedom and the responsibilities it demands from the media, is a matter which requires very vigorous and informed debate. I welcome the commitment to that debate which this newsletter seeks to generate. It should enrich us all.
